Colorado Criminal Records Check
Colorado
Springs Police Department
Individual
Records Check
Criminal record check:
A criminal record check is a search through the Colorado Springs Police
Department’s local records to obtain criminal or traffic records on a named
individual.
Required Information to conduct local criminal record check:
The Colorado Springs Police Department requires the full
name and date of birth of the person for which the record check
is being requested. This ensures that the criminal record has been correctly
identified prior to the release of the record. This procedure is in compliance
with the Colorado Revised Statutes which requires positive identification of an
individual prior to a criminal record being released.
What the citizen will receive:
The citizen will receive a printout of an individual’s local criminal record,
which includes arrest data. The Police Department does not maintain court dispositions on criminal records. If this type of
information is needed, the citizen will need to contact the appropriate court to
obtain this information.
What the citizen will NOT receive:
a. Juvenile criminal records.
b. Criminal records that belong to another law enforcement agency.
If a citizen requests a statewide or nationwide record check on an
individual, the citizen will be referred to the Colorado Bureau of
Investigations, Identification Section, Denver, Colorado. Telephone number (303)
239-4208.
No local criminal record:
If there is no local criminal record, the citizen will receive a letter from the
Colorado Springs Police Department advising that no local criminal record is in
the Police Department’s files. If the citizen requires that this letter be
notarized, the citizen should advise the Department of this at the time the
request is submitted. The Colorado Springs Police
Department does not provide certified records. Certified
records can be obtained from the appropriate court.
Fees:
$10.00 per criminal record check. This is a
non-refundable fee, which covers the cost of search as well as retrieval.
Procedure:
A citizen can request a local criminal record check by:
- Mailing a letter which includes the full name and date of birth of the
person whose record is being requested as well as the $10.00 search fee (no
cash). If a citizen is requesting his or her own local criminal record,
which includes juvenile and adult information, the letter must be notarized.
When the request has been processed, a copy of the record will be sent via
the U.S. Postal Service. It is not necessary to include a self-addressed,
stamped envelope this cost is included in the search fee. Please make sure
you include your full name and mailing address.
